The Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation was set up as a central organization desigened to work in cooperation with industry, government and academic institutions to carry out clinical research and technological development in the field of cutting-edge medical treatment with the overall aim of improving standards of medical services and helping to bring medical-related industries closer together.

The Foundation works in support of the Kobe Medical Industry Development Project, which has three main goals:

  • Revitalizing Kobe's economy by generating new industries, strengthening existing industries and creating jobs
  • Improving citizen welfare by providing healthcare support and responding to the needs of Japan's aging society
  • Making a contribution to the international community by improving medical technology in other Asian countries

The fields of health, welfare and medicine look set to become one of the major growth industries in the 21st century and the Foundation will continue to help it grow and develop.
