The Local Platform Project is an overall support system that aids in the establishment of new businesses. The project was created after a new law that facilitates the establishment of new business was enacted in February of 1999.
The Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation, which is the managing body of the Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation, which in turn is the core facility of the Kobe Medical Industry Development Project , is recognized as the core support organization within Kobe City's Local Platform Project in accordance with this law.
Kobe city developed and prospered together with the Kobe port, and successfully accumulated a wide range of industries in the manufacturing sector. The city enjoyed prosperity in the fashion industry, strived to create an environment suitable for becoming a "Convention City" and an "International Tourist city", and has long aimed at creating a multi functional industrial structure.
However, the 1995 Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake left a damaging blow on Kobe's industry and its overall economy. Japan's recent economic stagnation has also left a negative influence : it has created an economic slump and a lowered the city's employment demand. In order to break through these adverse circumstances, it is of utmost importance that we aid in the overhaul of the economy by establishing new industries that utilize the region's existing natural resources and environment, and create businesses with a healthy growth potential.
As a core support organization, we will continue to work towards reviving Kobe city's economy. We will strive to secure employment, establish new businesses and upgrade already existing industries in the medical , health, and the welfare related fields. We plan on achieving our goals in collaboration with Kobe City, the Kobe Industry and Agriculture Promotion Foundation, KIMEC Corporation and other newly introduced industry support systems. We will also join forces with universities that have the necessary medical-related technology, capacity and information.
